Virtual reality

I’ve always been short, but never imagined I’d become a 5 inch trainer! In light of the current crisis we’ve had to very quickly think on our feet and adapt to a very different way of life. As gyms shut and social distancing was introduced it meant training clients face to face was going to be impossible for the foreseeable future. So in order to keep the ball rolling, people fit, physically and mentally healthy it meant entering the virtual world. Years ago someone asked me if personal trainers would be replaced with online videos and programs and I said no because it’s not personal and you can’t replace one to one or face to face training. Truth is you can’t and being thrust headlong into a situation whereby the only way to continue to provide clients with that bespoke service is to use live video links, then that’s how we keep going. Not just leaving people to watch YouTube videos but to keep that personal interaction, motivation and support you simply can’t achieve any other way. Don’t get me wrong there are loads of brilliant videos out there and lots for people to be getting on with whilst we remain in isolation. Just be careful when you are taking up new forms of exercise with gusto as it could be an injury waiting to happen. A large number of over 70 yr olds appear to have taken up Jo Wicks’s morning kids workout in their living rooms, which is admirable but not necessarily advisable! Alongside a number of people who have taken up running all of a sudden, same applies, despite being desperate to escape the four walls by whatever means, do follow a slow and steady introduction of new forms of exercise gently. Otherwise there will be an exponential increase in injuries and or heart attacks. Joking aside I would advise to be careful when embarking on your new home exercise regime, start with a level that is in line with your current fitness levels and progress accordingly. There are some great platforms for group exercise. We have been using zoom and Houseparty. So not only for one to ones but small groups and larger bootcamp style workouts. That way we can still deliver a personal service to our clients and keep everyone fit and well.
So if you have a group of friends and want a Houseparty personal workout/bootcamp get in touch!
